In 2009, our founder Rekha Kulkarni was helping her own father search for a match for her younger brother. What she found was a system built on paper registers, word-of-mouth brokers, and very little accountability — families paying fees with no way to verify who was really on the other side of a "profile."
She left her job as a systems analyst in Pune, moved back to Indore, and spent a year visiting 40 families to understand what they actually needed: not more profiles, but more trust. Bandhan launched in 2010 with 200 verified profiles from three cities. Today it serves families across India and the diaspora.

Bandhan remains family-run, with the same founding rule still in place: trust is earned before a profile is ever shown to another family.
